Advancing Ethics in Science & Society

International Bioethics Forum (IBEF)

A Premier Annual Bioethics Event in Nigeria

The International Bioethics Forum (IBEF) is the flagship annual conference of the Bioethics Society of Nigeria (BESON). It stands as one of the most significant gatherings of Research Ethics Committees (RECs) and professionals working across the ethical spectrum of science, medicine, technology, and social innovation in Nigeria and beyond. With active global participation, the Forum creates a space where leading scholars, regulators, practitioners, innovators, and students reflect deeply on ethical challenges influencing research and society. Aligned with the mandate and professional development needs set by the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC), IBEF provides participants with access to mandatory continuing education on research ethics, while also shaping national policy conversations and practice standards across diverse research disciplines.

Why the Forum Matters

Members who participate in IBEF gain stronger grounding to fulfill their essential duties in:

  • Responsible and timely review of research protocols
  • Protection of human participants and communities
  • Oversight of ethical compliance in emerging technologies
  • Strengthening institutional ethical governance

The Forum is one guaranteed pathway for ethics committee members to meet national training requirements while staying updated on cutting-edge concerns influencing the safety, quality, and impact of research.
